The co-ed residential school master plan is sited in the rolling hilly terrain around Manas Lake in the Pune suburbs. This expansive site enjoys elevation, openness, and serene views of the lake from many viewpoints on the site. The mandate by the client to employ its international signature design features based on classical architectural elements to the main administrative and visitor’s building was a prerequisite. This building, sited at the highest elevation on the campus, has a curving welcoming form with a large domed entry hall to evoke an elevated self-awareness as one enters its fold.
The master planning evolved from a rigorous study of the site contours, views and existing vegetation. A detailed watershed analysis of the site was conducted to mark out the natural drainage channels and a large recharge reservoir incorporated in the plan to capture rain water and provide a waterfront and views inside the campus.
The masterplan is divided into four distinct zones – Administration and Academic blocks, the Sports Complex, the Dining Hall and recreational Block and the Residential Hostels and Accommodation.
A central pedestrian spine connects the various buildings placed on terraced levels and navigates the slopes to access its various functions. The topographical differential between the academic and administrative blocks is bridged with a 1000-seater amphitheater.
The Sports complex houses a 25 m length indoor pool, basketball, table tennis and squash court among other games rooms. The outdoor sports facility has a football field, racing track, tennis courts and an equestrian ring.
