Ravindra Manch, located in the Ram Niwas Garden, enjoys an ideal setting being juxtaposed between the old walled city and new city of Jaipur. The unique opportunity of remodeling and upgrading this iconic structure and adding new annexes presented interesting challenges.
The new master plan of the site incorporated a second auditorium, repository, new art galleries, a guest house and cafeteria building while renovating the existing permanent art gallery and auditorium.
The redundant large basement areas which housed the green rooms earlier have been repurposed into art galleries through a new modern entry. The open-air theater stage is better integrated with green rooms beyond and provided with added fire escape stairway routes. The stage has been repaved and a dramatic curved backdrop and wings added to it.
The permanent art gallery has been renovated with a ramp access designed along the front curving walls of the auditorium lobby. This ramp with murals along the curved wall is also designed to support a striking screen feature made of tensile metal strings with a traditional motif element in galvanized iron giving the art center a much-deserved character and face lift.
